Conversely, the study identified several cities with concerning driving behaviors. Three Texas cities, namely Dallas, Fort Worth, and San Antonio, landed in the top 15 cities with the worst drivers. Albuquerque, New Mexico, claimed the undesirable title of the city with the worst drivers, followed by Memphis, Tennessee; Detroit, Michigan; Tucson, Arizona, and Kansas City, Missouri.
Memphis, Tennessee, particularly stood out for its alarming rate of fatal car accidents involving drunk drivers, while New Mexico topped the charts for fatal accidents involving distracted driving.
On a positive note, several cities showcased commendable driving records. Boston, Massachusetts, boasted the second-lowest number of fatal car accidents, emphasizing its commitment to road safety. San Francisco, California, also demonstrated impressive statistics, with low rates of fatal accidents and fatalities.
However, it was New York City that stole the spotlight, ranking best in the nation for multiple metrics including the lowest rate of total fatal car accidents, fatal accidents involving drunk driving, speeding, and fatalities in crashes.
Other cities recognized for their safe driving practices include Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Las Vegas, Nevada, each showcasing noteworthy achievements in various safety categories.
